Day 61 (Part 3 - Day 24) Black Hawk, LA → Hermitage, LA
55 MIles Today, 2053 Miles total!
It was a rough start to the day as the guys didn't get much sleep last night. Little did they know, they were camped out near the Low Sill Control Structure. They listened to a horn go off every 30 seconds. They thought it was maybe a warning signal for an incoming storm, but it never stopped.
The structure is a floodgate system that controls the flow of water from the Mississippi River into the Atchafalaya River. This exact location is a big decision point for people who are taking on the Source to Sea journey. Quite a few people choose to take the Atchafalaya route from here down to the Gulf. By doing so, they bypass some major industrial traffic. Ian, Troy and Brandon are choosing to take the Mississippi River route down to the Gulf. By doing so, they'll share the water with barges, freightliners, and cruise ships. Wish them luck as these next few days will be busy!
Can't forget to mention, they checked off Mississippi today!
